Seven years ago a patriotic veteran came up with a thought-provoking vision. Earl Morse, a physician’s assistant and retired Air Force officer, pondered how he could pay tribute to his World War II patients and fellow comrades. Following the inauguration of the World War II Memorial the licensed pilot began formalizing a plan to ferry the elderly veterans to our nation’s capital to visit the befitting monument. Eventually the effort gained footing and soon a band of six pilots and their prized cargo set off on the trek to Washington, D.C.

Support spread for the endeavor and through the humanitarian efforts of Southwest Airlines several additional groups were able to be transported via commercial flight. Today the Honor Flight Network sends thousands of veterans from multiple locations throughout the US to the memorial.

After meeting Earl Morse over a cup of coffee one day I was drawn in by his compassion for fellow veterans and the enthusiasm he displays in undertaking his mission.  When not working, he is usually on the road garnering support for the charitable organization. Honor Flight exists through donations and Morse refuses to allow veterans to pay for their trips.
